+1 photosDiscover Rome's greatest private art collection, still owned and lived in by the family who assembled it. Behind a plain façade on the Via del Corso lies one of the most extraordinary interiors in the city: four long galleries around a central courtyard, hung floor to ceiling with more than 400 paintings — exactly as an 18th-century family inventory records them, unchanged for three centuries.
The collection's masterpiece is Velázquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X, widely held to be the finest portrait of the seventeenth century, displayed in its own small room beside Bernini's marble bust of the same pope. Around them hang two early Caravaggios, along with works by Raphael, Titian, Correggio, Guido Reni and Brueghel the Elder, and a suite of state rooms including the mirrored ballroom.
Your ticket includes an audio guide narrated by Prince Jonathan Doria Pamphilj, the current head of the family, who talks you through the rooms of his own home — something no state museum can offer.
