Sagrada Família: Tickets, Tours and the Best Light
Why the hour you enter Gaudí's basilica matters more than anything else you plan in Barcelona.
No photograph prepares you for the inside of the Sagrada Família — and no attraction in Barcelona punishes poor planning as hard. Entry is strictly by timed slot, slots sell out days ahead in season, and the experience changes completely with the light.
Chase the light, not the date
The basilica's stained glass is the whole show: cool blues and greens pour through the Nativity side in the morning, and the Passion side ignites in oranges and reds late in the afternoon. Mid-morning and the last two hours before closing are the two golden windows. Midday is the flattest light and the thickest crowd — the worst of both.
